Health Insurance

Health insurance and RFZO-covered treatment
If you have health insurance, your treatment is covered by at no cost – including diagnostics, , , and medicines. You are also entitled to paid sick leave, travel expense reimbursement and a second medical opinion.
Treatment covered by RFZO

You do not pay for treatment covered by – this includes diagnostics, , , and medicines.

Sick leave and salary

During sick leave you receive 65% of your base salary. Your employer covers the first 30 days, and takes over from day 31. This right continues for as long as you are employed.

Travel expenses

If you need to travel outside your city for treatment, you can claim reimbursement of travel expenses.

Second medical opinion

You have the right to request a second opinion from a doctor who was not directly involved in your care.

Health Insurance Act

Your rights to treatment, sick leave and travel reimbursement are set out in the Health Insurance Act (pravno-informacioni-sistem.rs/eli/rep/sgrs/skupstina/zakon/2019/25/1/reg).

Labor Act

Sick-leave pay and how long these rights last are also governed by the Labor Act (pravno-informacioni-sistem.rs/eli/rep/sgrs/skupstina/zakon/2005/24/1/reg).

Patient Rights Act

Your right to a second medical opinion is guaranteed by the Patient Rights Act (pravno-informacioni-sistem.rs/eli/rep/sgrs/skupstina/zakon/2013/45/2/reg).

Sick-leave pay

While you are on sick leave, you receive 65% of your base salary. Your employer covers the first 30 days, and from day 31 the payment comes from mandatory health insurance funds ().
